May : Our Coronation Party
Our May meeting was turned into a Coronation Party in celebration for King Charles. We had a buffet meal created for us by Carole from Grandma’s pudding in the village followed by entertainment from the Creaking Bones Ukulele band. One of the Creaking Bones kindly took a group photo of the members which we've added to the website. If you want a copy yourself, you can download one from the link on our Photograph Page. Before our buffet supper, Sid ran through a trip we might be interested in going on in August. A river cruise with lunch on board. |
After our roll call of previous Kings & Queens we all sang Jerusalem and then we had our entertainment provided by the Creaking Bones we all had a good singalong with them. They sang a selection of songs for us which included sea shanty’s, and a Beatles song.
Brass Buttons was the title of one that had been written by them and had won a competition on the radio. The song had to have a connection to Lincolnshire and mentioned Ingoldmells and Skegness in the lyrics. We all joined in with a couple of them which was good fun. A really enjoyable evening was had by all. Our evening ended with a surprise birthday cake for one of our ladies, Pam is celebrating her 90th birthday this month. Pauline had baked a cake for Pam so after us singing Happy Birthday for her we were all treated to a piece of cake with tea or coffee. The Picnic on the 8th August is now in Pauline’s Garden @ 2.00pm, hope to see you there. Our next meeting in the hall will be 12th September when we have a Beetle Drive to look forward to which is being organised by Linda Ratcliffe for us. |
12th September Meeting
September was our first meeting after the summer break so we were already for a good get together.
Once we’d updated our usual business to everyone, one of our own members Linda Ratcliffe had volunteered to do a Beetle Drive for us all. It really was a lot of fun and it was good to see everyone having a good laugh, I don’t think I’d ever seen so many unusual shapes of beetles!! The overall winner of the game was Margaret Parker and the Booby prize went to our visitor Karen. Pictures show our ladies winning the prizes. A big thank you to Linda and to Julie who decorated the booby prize with her art work. |
The competition for a board game was won by Helen with Ann in second place and Linda coming third.
Flower competition was won by Sue Edwards with Ann being the runner up.
The next meeting on the 10th October is with Jenny Kirkby who will be showing us how to make A Floral Christmas display.

10th October Meeting
The October meeting began with our President, Pauline, resigning from her role due to personal family matters.
Pauline has been our president for several years and steered us through the Covid lockdowns with book swaps, home made face masks when you couldn't buy them for love nor money and not forgetting the recycled WI Scarecrow as an NHS nurse !
Vice-president Helen is to take on the role for the rest of the WI year.

We continued with the rest of the business and then we had our speaker Jenni Kirkby who came to give us a demonstration on how to produce a Christmas Floral display. At the end of the evening Jenni produced 4 beautiful displays for us, there were several of her centre pieces on sale as well, which were snapped up very quickly. Our members were joined with 7 visitors who came along to join us for the evening and as you can see they were all enjoying themselves. |
14th November Meeting
Our November meeting was a craft evening with one of our members, Jackie. Once we’d gone through our business for the evening we all were given a Polystyrene ball and a choice of coloured material pieces. Jackie talked us through what we needed to do to make a Christmas decoration. It’s amazing what you can create when you put your mind to it. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and we all went home with our sparkly hanging Christmas ornaments. |

Our last meeting of 2023 was a Christmas party and the 105th Birthday of Friskney WI. It was formed on the 10th December 1918 and is still a thriving WI with 26 members, coming from Friskney, Wrangle and Skegness.
After our business catch up the evening started with entertainment from The Creaking Bones Ukulele Band, followed by a Buffet supper from Morrison’s. The Christmas quiz was a great success, who would have thought there were so many sweet bars and confectionary to talk about. Our evening ended with the cutting of the beautiful birthday cake baked by Pauline for us all to enjoy. Happy Christmas and a Very Happy New Year to everyone. |
