8th February
February was our first meeting of 2022.
We caught up with our usual business and then continued with the upcoming celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June.
Friskney are also having a Scarecrow Competition for all residents of our village. The Scarecrow needs to be in your garden and able to be seen from the roadside. Pauline is going to dress our WI Lady for the special occasion.
Jenny had the list of speakers and activities we are having for the next year which we’re all looking forward too.
Margaret gave us a list of possible trips for us to choose from for the next meeting.

Our speaker for the evening was Carole from Grandma’s Pudding who came along with her daughter Sam.
Carole gave us an insight as to how the idea of the Tea Room came about and some of the unfortunate incidents that have occurred along the way. In May 2021 Carole opened the Tea Rooms and since then it has grown from strength to strength. It is a non profit making venture and all the assistants and helpers are volunteers. They are young people who have some learning difficulties or disabilities that might prevent them from working in the outside world, with Carole’s help they are able to get experience of meeting and dealing with the public to prepare them for any future employment. |
Several of our members have been to the Tea Rooms which is a very relaxing place to visit for tea, coffee, lots of cake or savoury dishes including delicious sausage rolls.
The Tea Rooms have appeared on the TV and local radio.
Our March meeting we have Jenny showing us how to decorate Easter Eggs.

10th May 2022
After Pauline had read through our business we had a lovely lady Angela Riley showing us how to make Corn Dollies. Angela talked about the history of the Corn Dolly telling us that it wasn’t only a UK craft and a worldwide craft where by different countries around the world made the Corn Dollies in different shapes and symbols. The most usual shapes have hearts combined in them showing that they represented a gift for a loved one or special occasion like an engagement or marriage. |
We were all given 3 pieces of corn which would end up being our Corn Dolly. Some of us were better at it than others and ended up with, as Angela put it, “Creations”. It was a really fun filled evening and Angela has offered to come again next year which so it will be nice to see her again. Our next meeting is a Social evening with a Faith Supper and Quiz. Before then we have Pauline’s Jubilee Barbecue and not forgetting the Village Show. |
July 2022
Wendy and Angela from the Lincolnshire wildlife park here in Friskney came to our July meeting.
The park opened it’s doors as a Parrot Sanctuary and now many years later it’s not only home to the Parrot’s it has Tigers, Lions, Meerkats and several hundred turtles as it’s also the home of the National Turtle Sanctuary.
Our thanks to Wendy & Angela for an insight into how the park has grown.
The park continues to grow with lots of plans for the future.

September 2022
We started our meeting with Sally who lead us into a one minute silence for our late Queen Elizabeth II who sadly died on the 8th September.
Afterwards we all sang Jerusalem together before starting our business. Our speaker was Jackie Stokes one of our own members who showed us how to create a Faberge Egg. Jackie took us through the different steps of how our own eggs would look and we all had one to take home. It was a lovely evening and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, even all the sticky fingers from the glue ! Thank you Jackie. Coming up in our October meeting is Paul Roberts who will be speaking about the Search & Rescue Dogs. We have our Autumn Jumble Sale on Saturday 22nd October @ 12.00 noon. |
