May 2019 : Friskney WI descend on London !
Nine of our ladies left Wainfleet to spend a long weekend in London and they must have heard we were about to arrive as the train doors decided not to open ! Eventually we were allowed off and our adventures began. We checked into our lovely Hotel and set off for a 2 hour tour of the sights of London on an open top bus. It was nice to see the sights of London from above even though the weather was a bit overcast it didn’t dampen our spirits. Our evening was spent at the theatre; we split into groups and went to see Tina, 9 to 5, Phantom of the Opera and the Mousetrap. As you can imagine, we had lots to talk about when we finally arrived back at the hotel. |
Saturday saw us up and out bright and early to take in some retail therapy at the famous Portobello Road Market. I think we were all surprised at how big the market was with so much variety of goods to see and buy. Our next venue was the Tower of London, completely steeped in history and of course home to the beautiful crown jewels. Sunday was another day of sightseeing where we chose to go to either Kew Gardens,Hampton Court or Richmond. We all came back tired, happy and ready for our evening meal together. On our last day and after a bit of a lie in, some of us opted to visit the British Museum and the rest of us travelled to Oxford Street for some more retail therapy. |
We all had a wonderful weekend, lots of fun, laughter and a few hiccups along the way but as the train came into Lincolnshire the sun started to shine and we knew we were coming home to a less hectic place.

August : A River Cruise & Air Museum
In August we had two outings, the first to Buckingham Palace and the second an Educational trip which took in a river cruise and Newark Air Museum. The first stop was at the air museum where some of our group split here with some going on into the town for their morning of shopping. The rest of us went around the museum, taking in all the aircraft and memorabilia on show there. Hilary, one of our members who has always had a liking for the style of the RAF Vulcan even managed a trip into the cockpit of one of the decommissioned planes they have on show there. |
Following on from the museum we all met up again just before the river cruise. As you can see from the photograph, the boat was open on all sides and fortunately the weather was excellent. After such a tiring day it's perhaps not surprising that we all decided that some refreshment was in order, so on the way home we stopped at the "Barge and Bottle" in Sleaford for supper and to chat about our day. Our thanks to Margaret for organising the events which were enjoyed by all, and to Sid for keeping order on the day ! |
