January 2019
We started the New Year off with a discussion on the resolutions for 2019. After much debate we had a vote and as Pauline later announced, "The Trees have it ! " Afterwards our guest speaker, George Ingham, gave us an interesting insight into his life in Friskney. Born & bred in Friskney George related how he worked the fields as a youngster, saving all his hard earned money to buy and restore motorcycles which enabled him to set up and run his own engineering business. He has now retired from his engineering business but still enjoys his passion for motorcycles and as you can see here, he brought along his latest "toy" ! |
After George's talk we all enjoyed the last few slices of our 100th Birthday cake along with tea and coffee during our Social Time. It's all gone now..... but it was lovely ! The monthly competition was "a picture of a motorcycle" and the winner was Heather, with Hilary coming in second and Linda getting the third place. The Flower competition was won by Ann, Jane second and Margaret Rushworth coming in third. Our monthly raffle was won by Sandra who recently joined us in November 2018. |
February 2019
Our Speaker for February was Caroline Coram who brought along some of her handmade soaps and lotions.
Caroline started her career in fashion based in London but decided she wanted to do something different and has made a success of her Artisan soaps business.
During her talk she explained how essential oils are blended together to create her products.
During our social time Pauline had baked heart shaped scones to go with the WI "Show the Love" climate coalition.
We are all preparing green hearts to go on our Tree Board painted by Margaret R which will then be displayed in our church.
Competition Winners were
Flowers : Jane, Ann and Celia
Item (bar of soap) : Hilary, Pam and Lynn
Raffle : Lesley

March 2019
Our meeting this month was the annual meeting where we give our reports of events and meetings that we had over the last year as well as looking over our financial business. Pauline has been re-elected as President for the next year. Margaret Rushworth has retired as our long serving Secretary and takes up her role as Trip organiser as well as being Helen’s "go to for help" if needed. Margaret was presented with a beautiful plant and thanked for all her help and time by Pauline. We have taken part in the Green Heart “Share the Love” campaign which happens Nationwide throughout the WI. Jane took some photographs and here you can see our ladies with the Tree Board. |
Our ladies made green hearts and attached them all to our Tree Board which will go on display in the church for everyone to look at and see if they can guess which each one represents.

April 2019
Our April meeting started off outside (in a cold wind !) to officially unveil our Centenary Bench.
Our longest serving member Sally did the honours for us amidst lots of cheering, as you can see here. We have more photos of the event on our Centenary Time Capsule & Bench page The speaker we were expecting unfortunately had a family bereavement and so of course couldn't come to our meeting. Our programme organiser Jenny did some quick thinking and came up with the brilliant idea for us all to decorate a chocolate easter egg with sugar figures. Lots of sticky fingers but as you can see from below, we had some very tempting & beautiful results ! |
After that we continued with the business part of the agenda and our usual competitions. The results were; Decorated Eggs : 1st Lesley, 2nd Sally, 3rd Julie Flowers : 1st Margaret R, 2nd Ann, 3rd Celia Our next meeting is the "WI Resolutions" discussion followed by a "Food Tasting" competition. We look forward to seeing you there and bring your appetites ! |
May 2019
After our normal business we took time to debate the two resolutions for this year, "Rural Bus Services" and "Don't Fear the Smear". We voted for both resolutions to forward to the nest stage at the Annual Meeting which takes place in June at Bournemouth where one of our members, Lesley, will be our delegate.
We didn't have a speaker for this meeting, instead we had a food tasting session where we voted for our favourite items from a choice of three. We had pate, cream cheese, mini sausages, crisps, digestive biscuits and finally chocolate, all in "own brand" form from Lidl, Morrisons and Tesco. As you can see from the queue forming, this was a popular idea with everyone, in fact it was just like you see on the TV ! In a closely fought contest the overall favourite was Lidl, with Tesco coming second and Morrisons third. Our thanks to Margaret and Jenny for organising the event for us. We didn't have a competition for this month but we did hold our monthly raffle which Sally won. |
Finally we'd like to welcome two new members, Bev and Toni, who joined our WI tonight.
June 2019
We had a few apologies from members because of the terrible weather.
After our usual business had been dealt with our speaker Jan Reade gave us a very informative talk on the medieval kitchen. Jan brought along her outfit and several pieces of kitchenalia that she uses when taking part in the reenactments that take place at Gainsborough Old Hall during the year.
We don’t realise how lucky we are to have our modern kitchens today with all it’s gadgets to help us with our cooking and baking.
The competition for “An old kitchen item” was won by Sally with Liz coming 2nd and Bev 3rd.
Our Flower competition results were: 1st Jane, 2nd Celia, 3rd Ann
And finally Toni won the monthly raffle.

Our September meeting started off with the usual business,we had rather a lot to get through as we hadn’t had a meeting since July. We are preparing a Poppy banner to use in the church for the Remembrance service in November. Our members have been making poppies for several months by knitting, crocheting or using other materials they had. So last night we started to attach some of them to the netting. As you can see we have blue poppies as well, these represent the horses that were killed in the wars and are often forgotten about. You’ll be able to see the finishing product when you visit the church around Remembrance Day in November. |
The competition was "Bring something Red" and Lesley came first, with Liz in second place and Helen in third place. In our monthly Flower competition Hilary came first with Celia second and Liz in third place. The Raffle was won by Margaret Taylor. Next month’s speaker is Alan Dixon from Special Edition Chocolate. So come along and hear about the different varieties of chocolate and have a taste of some samples. Don’t forget to bring some money as we will be able to purchase some of their chocolate on the night ! |
October 2019
We had our usual business at our October meeting which was followed by our speaker for the night Alan Dixon from Special Edition Chocolate in Market Rasen.
Alan spoke about the journey of the cocoa pod from the tree, to it being produced into the chocolate we all love to eat. We all enjoyed the samples of the different chocolate that were on offer. At the end of the talk we were able to purchase lots of chocolate.
The flower of the month was won by Bev with Lesley second and Hilary in third place.
This month's competition was for an old Biscuit, Chocolate or Cake tin. Julie came first with Toni in second place and Celia winning third place. The raffle was won by June. Next month’s speaker is Steve O’Dare our Skegness Town Crier. Steve came along to our Centenary Jamboree and the background to becoming a Town Crier is well worth coming along for. Before then we have our coach trip to Hull on the 7th November and we still have a few places left on the coach, if you would like to join us please contact Margaret Rushworth asap. |
November 2019
Our November meeting is the last of our regular meetings for 2019. Steve O’Dare the Skegness Town Crier came along and entertained us by explaining what his position involves. It was very interesting to hear the history of a Town Crier and of course it was rounded off with a shout to our WI. The competition for “A Bell” was won by Pam with Liz in 2nd place and Margaret Taylor coming 3rd. The flower competition was won by Bev with Lesley 2nd and Liz 3rd place. Jean won the Raffle. On the 10th of December we have a combined Birthday and Christmas Party as we will be 101 years old. This year we are being entertained by the Coastal Community Choir with a buffet supper to follow. |
December 2019
Our 101st Birthday and Christmas Party was a great success.
We were entertained by the Coastal Community Choir which has members from local villages around the area. Classical songs as well as Christmas Carols were sung and enjoyed by us all.

Afterwards we had a very tasty buffet and then onto a quiz which for some of us was very hard to complete, particularly after a little tipple. As you can see from these photographs, we had another birthday cake to celebrate our 101st Birthday Our birthday cake was made by Maureen and Iced and decorated by Jenny. Thanks to all those who helped to make the night a success, Maureen & Jenny for the cake, the Coastal Community Choir and everyone else (too many to mention) who contributed to the night. A nice ending to an enjoyable night. |
