March 2019 : A Time Capsule and the Centenary Bench
As our Centenary events came to an end in 2018 we decided to mark it with a bench outside our Village Hall and underneath that, a Time Capsule. We buried our Time Capsule which included several items including a 2018 newspaper and coins, a WI News and WI Life, Minutes from 1918 & 2018 and a register of members from both years. We have purchased a bench for the village out of our Centenary fund-raising events we held during the last couple of years which takes pride of place outside the village hall. April 2019 : The Great British Spring Clean
In April we decided to take part in the national campaign called "The Great British Spring Clean". We normally do a Spring Clean at the village church every year (and we still are) but for this event we decided to do something a little different. And so several of our ladies ventured out onto the beaches to do battle with whatever has been washed up from the sea. We were fortunate in having a lovely sunny day and we spent the morning collecting all sorts of litter that has been washed up on the shoreline. By the time we'd finished we'd collected over 6 bags (very large bags ! ) of litter which East Lindsay collected from the Village Hall car park. |
Not content with tidying up the local seafront, we then headed off to the village church to help the church wardens and volunteers with their annual Spring Clean. This is an event which we've done before and the assistance from our ladies is always well received. It's surprising just how much dust is generated in an old stone building ! Here you can see Pauline heading off to clean the organ, with Margaret standing by to steady the ladder. |
9th June : At the Friskney Show
Our ladies held a WI stall at our local village show and as usual entered into the spirit of the event with fancy dress. The theme this year was "Around the World" which gave us the chance to dust off some of those fancy dress costumes and set up several games with a "flag" theme. We were very lucky this year as on the day we had glorious sunshine whereas the previous and following days were windy and wet. The good weather always helps our cause and we ran out of prizes for the games we had on our stall. We all had a good day and many hands to set up or take down our stall at the end of the day, and of course we had a steady rota of helpers to "man" the stall during the day itself. Friskney show is always a good event to attend and we'd like to express our thanks to those who helped on our stall before, during and after the event. Well done everyone ! |
29th November : The Annual WI Christmas Bingo
On the 29th November we held our annual Christmas Bingo in Friskney Village Hall, an event that's open to both WI members and the public. It's one of a series of 4 bingo sessions held in our village hall in the run up to Christmas and they are always well attended. Ours was no exception with good attendance by our members and people from the village and surrounding areas. As you can see from the photographs, we had a good selection of refreshments to choose from and this time we broke with tradition and provided bacon baps and hot dogs, warm food for a cold winter night ! |
As usual all the prize winners on the night were pleased with the quality of the prizes on offer, all of which were designed and presented by Jackie who did a great job. We were all pleased with the success of the evening and went home tired but happy. We'd like to thank everyone who came along to give their support and as ever thanks to Sue and Pete for their assistance on the night. |
