27th October 2015 : A Visit to RAF Scampton
On the 27th October we had an outing to RAF Scampton, the home of the Red Arrows display team. We started looking around the buildings and the replica office used by Guy Gibson, complete with a very well behaved labrador sitting under the desk. You may remember the film in which he asked for his dog to be buried at midnight as they entered the famous Dambuster bombing run and the grave is still marked to this day. In the main hangar we saw several of the Red Arrow fleet and they have one which you can climb up and try for yourself. This was remarkably popular with several of our ladies getting into the pilot's seat. We were very fortunate in that the weather cleared and they announced that the team would be going out for some practice manoeuvres so we ended our visit with our own flying display ! |
