Annual Meeting : Tuesday March 10th, 2015
Joint winners of the monthly Competitions Liz Burbridge and Pauline Ghest together with the winner of the Flower Competition, Hilary Jarvis.
|
Heather thanked the members for their support in what has been a very stressful time for her, particularly during the last 6 months.
She then announced that because of this, she had decided that she would not be standing for re-election as president for the coming year. The election of a new president took place, and we can announce that Margaret Parker was duly elected as Friskney WI's new president for 2015/16. With formalities over, members enjoyed a delicious faith supper, with time afterwards to have a mingle and chat together. |
April 2015 Meeting
Tonight's meeting was unusual in as much as it began at 6.30pm so that Friskney School Year 6 pupils could show us, with teacher, Mrs Banham, some of the science experiments they had learnt about in school.
They were all fantastic, and many of our WI ladies said that they would love to go back to school again if this is the sort of lessons were being taught these days! Thanks to all who took part; we had a fantastic time.

After the fun of the science experiments, we moved on to our evening's speakers, Serena & Julie, who were "Rummaging in granny's drawers"! Members took an active part by putting on some of the pinnies and aprons from a bygone era.
Thanks to our models (L to R): Serena & Julie, our speakers, and Jean, Pauline K, Margaret P, Jayne R and Carleen
May 2015 Meeting
I have to say that tonight's meeting was a bit out of the ordinary! Well done to Jenny for finding our speaker, Rose Lunt, who's talk was called "A Tea Rose".
We gained 2 new members tonight, (welcome to Sid and Carol! Bet you wondered what on earth you had let yourselves in for as the night progressed!!)
All I can say is that we all had a very good night, lots of laughter and flag waving! The pictures speak for themselves:

June Meeting
July Meeting
John Ghest, our prime suspect !
|
July's meeting turned out to be a very enjoyable affair, lots of laughter.
The evening began with President, Margaret P presenting 2 cheques of £60 each for money raised at our Picnic: one to Friskney School PTA and the other to Friskney Church. (see special page covering our Picnic) Chrissie Chapman JP, our guest for the evening, commandeered John Ghest to be a suspected criminal. Chrissie did such a good job that by the end, John's wife, Pauline was even convinced that he should go to prison! John: next time we need a 'criminal', we shall know where to come! You were a real good sport, thank you. Hazel had a clean sweep with both competitions tonight. |
September Meeting
September's meeting was a most enjoyable one. Our guest speaker was Denise Taylor from Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.
She brought along with her husband John accompanied by Ronnie the Dog plus a friend, another John who brought along his hearing dog Poppy. Denise gave us a most interesting talk on how the hearing dogs can help with all sorts of tasks in everyday life. They can alert their owners to doorbells, phones, and even in the case of an emergency i.e. fire etc. She also highlighted that they are a purely voluntary organisation and rely solely on donations. A most enjoyable evening was had by all. |
The bring and buy stall has now been resurrected for all those who have something to sell or want to purchase any items.
Please make sure that you take home any unsold items. |
October Meeting
The speaker for this month was Jenny Kirkby who had come to talk to us about the art of flower arranging. Jenny gave a very interesting talk and showed members how to make arrangements out of foliage and items around the home. Jenny was most entertaining and gave us all an insight into how we could make beautiful arrangements out of all sorts of items we may have hidden away.

December 2015
This month we had a homemade buffet to celebrate Christmas and two of our members supplied the entertainment. There was also a competition for the best painted denby frog, a follow on from our visit to the Denby pottery earlier in the year.
The evening was also a chance to reflect on the years events and there was a photo display for us all to enjoy along with some Christmas music.
