Apologies to anyone viewing this page on a phone or small tablet because it will look jumbled due to the mixture of images and text. But we think the archive documents of how our WI was formed are sufficiently interesting to make them available on our website, so here they are !
These are the earliest documents from our archives telling how the ladies of Friskney village came about organising a local branch of the Women's Institute.
It started off with a talk about the aims of the Women's Institute and here we can see the "official" report of that first meeting in a letter to Lady Denman. The text is a little hard to read on screen so here's the content; To : Lady Denman Subject : Lindsey Women's Institutes The organiser addressed this meeting of a scattered (?) country district on "The Aims and Methods of Women's Institutes" After this it was decided to organise at once. This was done with 28 initial members. The committee was elected and suggestions received for future programme. Secretary Miss G Robinson, Friskney Post Office, Lincs. |
Moving on to the second and third images, here we see the Friskney versions of that meeting, hand written in the very first log of Friskney WI. Again the text is difficult to read on screen (although neater than the one above ! ) so we've reproduced the text below;
